On Tuesday, 8 April, the Abat Oliba CEU University organised the official presentation of the European project EUonAIR (European University on AI in Curricula, Smart UniverCity and (Return) Mobility), held at the headquarters of the European Parliament and the European Commission in Barcelona. The meeting brought together institutional representatives from the European Union, members of the project consortium and representatives from the CEU universities in a key event for the University’s international positioning.
EUonAIR aims to transform higher education in Europe through the responsible integration of artificial intelligence into curricula, academic mobility and the creation of more sustainable, digital, student-centred campuses. The project is expected to benefit more than 85,000 students, more than 13,400 university professionals and more than 13 million European citizens, and is supported by the European Union through the Erasmus+ program.
During the event, Swen Seebach, Vice-Rector for Quality, Strategic Planning and Internationalisation at our university, and Barbara Domaradzka, Executive Director of EUonAIR on behalf of Kozminski University (Poland), presented the overall vision of the project, highlighting the willingness to lead the change in a conscious, responsible and inclusive way, as well as the importance of promoting the European values of inclusion, shared governance and ethical responsibility in the use of technology.
One of the focuses of the presentation was Work Package 7, a work area jointly led by the UAO CEU and ESSCA School of Management (France) that focuses on the development of Smart and Green UniverCities. This line of work seeks to transform cities and regions into more sustainable, innovative environments, promoting collaboration between universities and local stakeholders through solutions based on responsible artificial intelligence. This part was presented by Juan Francisco Jiménez, director of the Communications Department at the UAO CEU, and Yann Truong, project manager at ESSCA.
The event also featured speeches by the rector of the UAO CEU, Arcadi Gual, the director of the European Commission Representation in Barcelona, Manuel Szapiro, the director of the European Parliament Office in Barcelona, Sergi Barrera, and the Polish Consul General in Barcelona, Ilona Kaldonska.
EUonAIR is co-funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ programme.
