🎓 An academic year to celebrate fifty years

The new academic year (2023-24) is very special for the University. We are celebrating our 50th anniversary as an institution. In other words, half a century of the CEU’s presence in Barcelona, firstly as a University College and later as Higher Education Teaching Centre. In both cases, we were affiliated with the University of Barcelona.

An academic year to celebrate fifty years

The new academic year (2023-24) is very special for the University. We are celebrating our 50th anniversary as an institution. In other words, half a century of the CEU’s presence in Barcelona, firstly as a University College and later as Higher Education Teaching Centre. In both cases, we were affiliated with the University of Barcelona.

This status as an affiliated centre lasted until 2003, when the law recognising our university as a private university was passed. And that was twenty years ago, another significant date.

Fifty years of existence and twenty as a private university. These are more than enough reasons to celebrate. Months ago, a commission was set up to organise activities to celebrate and commemorate this double anniversary.

For the time being, this is the expected programme:

  • 9 October 2023 – Inauguration of the 2023-24 academic year. This will mark the beginning of a year of celebrations
  • 9 October 2023 – Inauguration of the New Building, attended by the President of the CEU and Chancellor of our university, Alfonso Bullón de Mendoza
  • 31 January 2024 – Celebration of the conversion of St. Paul. 50th anniversary book presentation and exhibition
  • 25 April 2024 – A festive day of celebration for the whole university community
  • 23 May 2024 - Institutional ceremony
  • June-July 2024 – Concert in the Sagrada Familia
  • 11 October 2024 – Concert by the Escolania de Montserrat in the Great Hall. End of the year of celebration
