2. Complete formation plan

The degree in Journalism at the Abat Oliba CEU University offers a study programme marked by its international projection, the practice of journalistic production, the entrepreneurial orientation and the analysis of reality, under the premise of personalised formation.

3. Internationalisation

This degree includes 50% of the subjects are taught in English)with the aim of helping the student to gain a good command of this language and to be able to suitably have contact with foreign teachers and students through courses, seminars, exchanges, etc.

It also has 46 exchange agreements with universities in more than 20 countries of Europe, America and Oceania to carry out international stays or internships in the best universities of Europe, America and Oceania.

4. Methodology

Teaching model based on the practical and individualised training that allows to link the  theoretical knowledge to the professional practice, grounded on the following foundations:

  • The practice of journalistic production: from the first year, students have contact with the journalistic reality through radio, television, photojournalism and digital journalism workshops.
  • The entrepreneurial orientation: students have the opportunity to create and manage informative and journalistic companies thanks to the materials developed by the universities of Stanford and Cornell.
  • The analysis of reality: the study programme includes humanistic and social subjects, which offer the necessary tools to analyse reality and current affairs, grasping how media systems reflect them both at national and international fields.
5. Language

The degree in Journalism is taught on a bilingual modality. We facilitate every student the obtaining of the required English level to take a bilingual degree course by means of a learning agreement with the British Council.

6. Competences program CEU ePlus

The CEU ePlus competence program is incorporated in every degree since the very first year, in order to work on the specific most demanded competences in the labour market for every degree. In addition, the students always have at their disposal the possibility to make an individual coaching procedure.

7. Facilities

The Audiovisual Service of the University comprehends all the facilities, infrastructures, and fixed and mobile equipment necessary for the teaching activity (television studio, sound system studio, photography studio, radio studio, etc.).

INTERNSHIPS

In the final year of the degree course, students undertake a mandatory work placement in companies, offices or institutions in their preferred area of practice.

These practical training programmes are included in the study plans, and enable the student to apply and complement the knowledge they have acquired during their academic training, ensuring that they acquire professional competences that will assist them when they enter employment in the future. The group of activities that the student will develop in this programme will be jointly agreed between the company’s tutor and the Work Placement and Employment Service coordinator, who is in charge of the practicum.

The student will also have an academic tutor who will monitor and evaluate the internships to ensure that the students get the maximum use of their time at the organisation.

PLACE RESERVATION

You will be able to do the place reservation at the Abat Oliba CEU University, which guarantees a place in the degree while awaiting approval of the Selectivitat or other access requirements, carrying out the payment of €1,500 which will be discounted from the total price of the course.

PAYMENT METHODS

Once you have made a reservation, the payment of the rest of the registration fee can be carried out in one of the following methods:

Single payment

This method involves a 3% discount on the enrolment fees.

Instalment payment

Of the enrolment fee in four instalments per year.

Monthly payment

10 instalments with special financing at 0% interest with Banc Sabadell (Check opening charges).

Other payment methods

With Banco Santander, "la Caixa", Catalunya Caixa, BBVA and Banc Sabadell. This method also involves a 3% discount on the enrolment fees.

Quality and regulations

ADMISSION PROFILE

The students must be interested in social communication, current affairs, and how the media work and are managed. They must be able to express themselves both orally and in writing, analyse and identify issues and propose solutions; They also must be able to analyse and summarise information and work as part of a group, as well as understand and abstract information. They must be sociable, open-minded and have a view on how the world may develop in the future.

It is also required the knowledge of at least one other language (preferably English), as well as having communication skills.

OBJECTIVES

  • Being able to express themselves with clarity and precision, in order to convey information in an efficient manner.
  • Having in-depth knowledge of searching for, identifying, collating and dealing with information, and how to use this in order to work with sources and develop information that reflects and gives meaning to current affairs.
  • Having knowledge of and being capable of critically evaluating the present, in order to communicate events in line with the truth. Having a cultural and historical framework that enables these events to be put into perspective, explaining the background and causes or foreseeable consequences.
  • Taking responsibility for information projects, coordinating journalism teams or managing the media.
  • Having enough knowledge of concepts, categories, theories and the most relevant aspects of different branches of information-communication research.
  • Becoming a comprehensive journalist who takes social responsibility in the media into account when working within the professional information environment.
