3. Double qualification

Abat Oliba CEU University is a pioneer in the methodology that allows students to combine two qualifications and gain two degrees in five years. UAO CEU offers the double qualification in early childhood education and primary education, that allows you to broaden the professional capital of our future teachers.

This double degree combines the best of both courses: care for the youngest students and specialisation in English, special education, physical education and musical education.

We prepare teachers to take part in the development of knowledge. This is achieved through participation in methodically based educational research projects as well as the development and application of new methodologies, techniques and processes in the world of education.

The aim of this double degree is to shape teachers that combine high technical and scientific capabilities in the tasks they carry out with the educational skills to fill the important role of being an excellent teacher.

4. Intensive course to prepare students for access to education degrees

Intensive course in logic/mathematics

An intensive course in logic/mathematics and/or a Catalan language course to pass the Personal Aptitude Test required for access to the Early Childhood Education and Primary Education degrees.

5. School Immersion Programme

From the first year, students directly work on real-life activities in the Abat Oliba Foundation's education centres, giving them practical knowledge of teaching tasks and everything that surrounds education.

  • Systematic observation of real classes
  • Attendance at planning and evaluation meetings
  • Observation of classes led by their professors, so they can learn from what their professors teach
  • Talks with teachers of differing levels of experience about their motivations, difficulties, challenges, etc.
  • Visits to cultural and sports centres to learn about educational departments and the activities they do.

INTERNSHIPS

In the final year of the degree, students will do an obligatory placement year, or internship, in businesses, offices or institutions in the student's preferred industry.

These practical training programmes, included in the course structure, allow students to apply and enhance what they've learned in the course while acquiring the professional skills that will make their future transition to the workplace much easier.

The work that each student will undertake during the programme will be mutually agreed between the tutor in the business and the Work Placement and Employment Service coordinator in charge of the internship.

Furthermore, students have an academic tutor who provides follow-up and evaluation of the internship to get the most possible out of the placement.

Quality and regulation

ADMISSION PROFILE

Students must be interested in education and see the teaching profession a vocation dedicated to the individual and common good, as it is understood by most cultural traditions, ours in particular. Similarly, they must feel an inclination to the well-being of children at the early childhood education age. Without this, it will be hard to take on the inherent difficulties of teaching children at this level of development.

They must have the intellectual capacity to adapt to the cognitive conditions of their students and know how to adapt teaching methods to most efficiently achieve their teaching objectives.

Communication must come naturally, not just the written and spoken word, but through other media that elicit an active response from students, such as music, drawing, etc.

They must also know how to work in a team, both in concrete teaching tasks, as well as in more complex institutional backgrounds, such as schools.

An important condition for aspiring educators at the early childhood stage is the ability to mediate and resolve conflicts both in the classroom as well as in other areas of the educational community. In particular, students must know how to communicate with families, always respecting the schools subsidiary roles to parents.

OBJECTIVES

  • To have a solid understanding of the historical, philosophical, psychological and teaching foundations of education, children from 0 to 12 and the school system.
  • To have a solid understanding of content from different early childhood and primary education disciplines.
  • To gain practical and applied teacher training covering all disciplines and school organisation.
  • To develop skills to work professionally and efficiently, both individually and in a team, for the good of the students. Graduates will be able to cater to each individual circumstance and act as a subsidiary collaborator with parents' educational work.
  • To stay constantly up to date with the latest knowledge and abilities, particularly when it comes to the changes that the information society is going through.
  • To occupy a valuable space in the school and sociocultural sphere, particularly regarding the relationship between schools and families.
  • To learn scientific skills to be able to implement new contributions to the world of teaching in any of their fields.
